Freedom of Information Act Statement

The Health Affairs/TRICARE Management Activity (HA/TMA) Freedom of Information Service Center has principal authority to ensure HA, TMA, and its Components (Military Medical Support Office, Pharmacoeconomic Center, and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences) are in full compliance with the requirements of the FOIA. Under FOIA, Federal agencies and components are required to make records available to the public unless their withholding is authorized by one of nine (9) specific exemptions. Only Federal Executive branch agencies and components must comply with FOIA, and it does not extend to records held by Congress, the courts, or by state or local government agencies. Each state has its own public access laws that should be consulted for access to state and local records.

Primary functions include:

  • Responding to FOIA requests from members of the public seeking HA/TMA business records in accordance with DoD 5400.7-R
  • Actively promoting transparency between TMA and the public and collaborates with other government agencies to provide access to information maintained by HA/TMA
  • Providing an accurate and timely response to FOIA requests in accordance with the public’s right to information concerning government activities, while protecting individual privacy rights
